What it is
What decay actually costs you.
A filling replaces the part of a tooth that decay has taken away. We use composite resin, layered and cured in the tooth, then shaped and polished until it matches the teeth beside it. Most people can't find it in the mirror afterwards, which is the point.
What to expect
From numb to normal.

Numbing gel first, then the anaesthetic — you'll feel pressure, not a sharp scratch.

The decay is removed and the cavity cleaned. This is the noisy part, and it's short.

Composite goes in as thin layers, each set with a blue light.

We check your bite with marking paper and adjust until closing feels like it always did.
- 5
A polish, and you're done.

Can I eat afterwards?+
Composite is fully set before you stand up, so yes — but wait for the numbness to go so you don't bite your own cheek.
Why not a silver filling?+
Composite bonds to the tooth, so less healthy structure has to be cut away to hold it in place. It also doesn't announce itself when you laugh.
Will it be sensitive?+
Deeper fillings can be cold-sensitive for a week or two. If it's still sharp after that, come back — it's usually a bite adjustment, and it takes five minutes.
